ARTHUR SCHOPENHAUER

Arthur Schopenhauer was a German philosopher. He was born on February 22, 1788 and died on September 21, 1860. He is remembered mostly for his work 'The World as Will and
Representation'.
Arthur Schopenhauer was very much influenced by the philosophy of Immanuel Kant. His works were practically an expansion of Kant's philosophy.
He has published a large number of works on psychology. aesthetics and ethics.
As a political thinker, Arthur Schopenhauer was influenced by Friedrich Nietzsche, Ludwig
Wittgenstein and Sigmund Freud.
Arthur Schopenhauer was born the son of Johanna Schopenhauer.
Schopenhauer became a student at the University of Gottingen in 1809. There he studied metaphysics and psychology. He was taught by Gottlob Schulze. It was he who advised Arthur
Schopenhauer to concentrate on Plato and Kant.
After submitting as his doctoral dissertation, he was awarded a PhD from the University of Jena in absentia.
In 1820, Schopenhauer became a lecturer at the University of Berlin. It was there that his opposition to G.W.F Hegel began.
Schopenhauer scheduled his own lectures to coincide with Hegel's, in an attempt to demolish student support of Hegel's philosophy. However, he was not successful in it.
Schopenhauer had a robust constitution, but in 1860 his health began to deteriorate. He died,
sitting in his armchair, of heart failure.
